Other Attractions at the Bicentennial
“New Life to the Old Loom”
Many children in Newton Falls will remember working on a weaving
while they attended Newton Falls Middle School. The children rescued a
150 year old loom, ordered parts from Canada, mended the loom and went
to work on a large weaving as a team project. It was billed as a thousand
hands that gave new life to an old loom. The kids worked for a year and
a half under the guidance of then art teachers MaryAnn Williamson and
Nancy DeSalvo. The children created a beautiful tapestry that had been
on display at the Middle School for many years. It was created using old
balls of rags, yarn, raffia, straw, and beads. This beautiful tapestry
will be on display at the Bicentennial Art Show at St. Mary’s Social
Hall on the corner of Milton Boulevard and Maple Drive. The Art Show runs
from 12 noon until 7 PM on Saturday, September 2nd, and 12 noon until
6 PM on Sunday, September 3rd.
Native American Artifacts
Pat Layshock will display his Native American artifacts on Saturday,
September 2nd, 2006 at the Newton Falls Community Center from 10 AM until
4 PM. Pat is our local expert on Indian history.

Falls Community Center on both Saturday, September 2nd and Sunday, September
3rd, with a beam from the covered bridge on display as well as renditions
and information on the Covered Bridge Renovation.
